CSC Announcement: 2023 Schedules for the Civil Service Exams & Requirements

Are you planning on taking the 2023 civil service examinations so you can take your shot at finding a job in the government?

We’re giving you a heads-up as the CSC (Civil Service Commission) announced the schedules for the 2023 civil service exams for the CSE-PPT (Career Service Examination, Pen and Paper Test) for both Professional and Sub-Professional Levels.

2023 Schedules for the Civil Service Exams

As practiced in the years before the pandemic, there will be two civil service exams in 2023. Take note of the following schedules:

1. March 26, 2023 (CSE-PPT) Exam

Application Period: December 22, 2022- January 25, 2023

2. August 13, 2023 (CSE-PPT) Exam

Application Period: May 15, 2023- June 14, 2023

There’s also a special application period for unrefunded examinees of the canceled March 15, 2022, CSE-PPT from December 14-21, 2022, if you want to take the March 26, 2023, CSE-PPT schedule.

VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER

If you’re planning to take the test, be sure to apply as soon as possible.

The applications are on a First Come; First Serve basis, and the CSC has the authority to stop accepting applications even before the deadline if they already reached their maximum limit for the exam applicants.

Application Process for the 2023 Civil Service Exams

Applications must be filed personally at CSC Regional Office (CSCRO) where you’re planning to take the examination.

Qualifications

The qualifications remain the same for the civil service exams”

  • Must be a Filipino citizen;
  • Must be 18 years old (on the filing date);
  • Must be of good moral character;
  • Must have no conviction by final judgment of any offense or crime involving disgraceful or immoral conduct, moral turpitude, examination irregularity, dishonesty, drunkenness, or addiction to drugs;
  • Must have not been dishonorably discharged from uniformed or military service, or dismissed from any civilian positions in the government.
  • Must have not taken the same level of CSE (regardless of mode) within the last 3 months before the examination date.

Some Reminders

  • Applicants with pending administrative and/or criminal cases can still take the exams, but their eligibility is forfeited if they’re found guilty
  • Examination fees will be forfeited if the applicant is disqualified at any time during the application period
  • Applicants with dual citizenship under R.A. 9225 can still apply for and take the CSE as long as they can present the original and a photocopy of their Certification of Retention/Reacquisition of Philippine Citizenship from the BI (Bureau of Immigration), plus meeting all the other requirements for admission and application

Examination Coverage

Topics covered by the 2023 CSE-PPT (Professional and Subprofessional levels):

Professional Level – 170 items in 3 hours and 10 minutes

  • Analytical ability (word association, logic, and data interpretation)
  • Numerical ability (basic operations and word problems)
  • Verbal ability (vocabulary, grammar and correct usage, reading comprehension, and paragraph organization)

Subprofessional Level – 165 items in 2 hours and 40 minutes

  • Clerical ability (filing and spelling)
  • Numerical ability (basic operations and word problems)
  • Verbal ability (vocabulary, grammar, and correct usage, reading comprehension, and paragraph organization)

Take note that general information items can include the following for both the professional and subprofessional exams:

  • Environment Management and Protection
  • Peace and Human Rights Issues and Concepts

Exam Results

The CSC usually releases the list of exam passers within 60 days after the exams.
